Hemangioma treatment

A hemangioma is a benign growth rich in blood vessels. The type that grows quickly in infancy and then fades is different from the type that stays still in adults. Treatment is chosen by age, site and speed of growth.

How does a hemangioma behave?

An infantile hemangioma in a baby grows in the first months, then fades over years. Those on the face, eyelid or lip, those near the airway, and those that ulcerate quickly are not simply waited on. Small cherry-like vascular bumps in adults are usually stable and are mostly considered for appearance.

Treatment options

A vascular laser can be used for suitable superficial lesions. Some infant cases need medicine. That decision is made together with child health, and a dose is not described on this page. Surgery is discussed when laser is not enough or a mark is left. Not every red spot is a hemangioma.

After laser

Bruising and crusting can last a few days. The area is protected from the sun and the crust is not picked. More than one session may be needed. The eye area and a baby’s skin need a lower dose and closer checks.

When is it urgent?

Rapid growth, bleeding, a wound, covering the eye, or difficulty breathing needs assessment the same day. Burning, tying or putting acid on it at home tears the vessel.

The suitable method is decided after examination. For an appointment you can call 0555 714 62 95 or write on WhatsApp.
