Sunspot treatment

Sun spots are brown patches that settle over the years on the face, hands and chest. Treatment aims both to lighten the mark and to slow new ones. Laser without sunscreen fades back quickly.

How does a sun spot form?

Ultraviolet light makes the cells that produce melanin work unevenly. Light that adds up under a hat and behind glass can leave map-like spots on the face years later. It can be confused with hormone-related melasma. Aggressive laser in melasma can darken the spot. That distinction changes the choice of treatment.

What is done in the clinic?

For a superficial spot, peeling, lightening care and a suitable laser or light system are used. On thin skin such as the back of the hand, the dose is set more carefully. Lemon, parsley or acid mixtures from the internet cause burns. The treatment is safer after a tan has fully faded.

While it heals

A brown crust can sit for a few days and then fall. That crust is the spot itself. It is not picked. Redness fades. New pink skin is very sensitive to the sun. A hat and a high-factor cream are part of stopping the spot from coming back.

Can the spot return?

Because the tendency continues, new spots can form. A yearly check and a protection plan before summer reduce the need for repeated heavy treatment. A dark mark that changes colour, bleeds, or sits on its own should be seen with a dermatoscope before a cosmetic procedure.
